Glamour Fest

To coincide with the release of the March "Hollywood" issue, Glamour magazine is launching glamourfilmfest.tv, an online film festival of short independent films by women, for women.

Sponsored by Avon, the site features a variety of categories including U.S. Cinema, International, Animation and Documentary. Each week a new film will debut in each of the four categories. Actresses like Christina Ricci, Maria Bello, and Elizabeth Banks will each name their favorite shorts during the online film festival, which will run through March 7. And no film festival would be complete without swag; the first 500 visitors to the site will be gifted with a basket of goodies from Avon.

This launch marks a return to Glamour's Hollywood roots. When the magazine made its debut in 1939 it was Glamour of Hollywood, a fashion tome devoted to getting the movie star look.

The March issue features Naomi Watts on the cover and celebrates women in all aspects of film. Not only are they covering the starlets and the designers who dress them, but stories include insight into the lives of powerful female movie executives, with tips from Polly Cohen, the president of Warner Independent Pictures, and Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce, and a list of the greatest movie lines by actresses. Glamour's commitment to women in film transcends the pages and usual best dressed, the Glamour Reel Moments initiative, a short film series based on moments in readers' lives, which has given women the chance to direct in a male dominated arena. The program has given the Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson their directorial debuts.
