Good year for Forest Whitaker

Forest Whitaker: It seems to be the fine actor's year. Not only is he favored to win an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of the brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, but Whitaker also is up for a major NAMIC Vision Award for his work on FX Network's The Shield as Lt. Jon Kavanaugh, a man on a mission to derail Vic Mackey's (Michael Chiklis) illegal train.

The Shield topped the NAMIC list with four nominations: Best Actor noms Whitaker and Benito Martinez, Best Television Drama and a Best Actress in a Drama nomination for CCH Pounder. NAMIC is the premier organization focusing on multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry.

The awards will be presented during a ceremony at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California on March 27.
