Madonna does TOP OF THE POPS
It's not the fact that Madonna is miming with a pink wig on, it's the fact that she's on TOP OF THE POPS that gets me..
What a flashback, TOP OF THE POPS was THE music show that EVERYBODY tuned into to see the top 40 in the UK.
Many a Thursday night did I sit in front of the television for the show, only to jump up and start imitating whatever band or artist "moved me".
Now THAT's a British institution..
Random Stuff - Sandcastle sold for $12,500

Any of the examples (link below) could be widely regarded as significant structures—if only they hadn't washed away hours after their completion.
According to Ted Siebert's 1990 book, The Art of Sandcastling, "Seawater is an ideal bonding agent for a sand castle. As seawater in a sculpture evaporates, salt crystals remain, forming a thin crust over the entire surface. If the sculpture is sprayed from time to time, an additional buildup of salt crystals will help preserve the piece."
Take his advice, and start digging before summer ebbs away.

Kate Moss Joins Gild: Mega-Statue Museum-Bound

British sculptor Marc Quinn is ready to unveil his latest creation to the world, a nearly $2.8 million, 110-pound solid gold statue of the supermodel, hyped as the largest such creation built since ancient Egypt.
Quinn, the artist behind 2006's Sphinx, a painted bronze statue of Moss in a somewhat provocative yoga pose, has dubbed his new golden girl Siren.
And the British Museum has already heeded its call.
While the venerable London museum has so far only released a close-up photo of the statue's face, the work purportedly shows Moss, once again, in the same contorted yoga pose as before.
"I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment," Quinn said of his fabulously excessive creation. "But even Kate Moss doesn't live up to the image."
The British public will be able to determine for itself whether the statue succeeds where Moss apparently failed, with the objet d'art going on display in the the same British Museum gallery that houses the institution's ancient Greek sculpture collection.
The statue will be on display from Oct. 4 through Jan. 25.

Warner Bros sues Indian Studio over HARI PUTTAR Film..

Warner Bros studios has taken legal action against an Indian studio which plans to release a film entitled Hari Puttar - A Comedy Of Terrors.
The Hollywood giant has recently commenced proceeding against Mirchi Movies, of Mumbai, over the film in question, feeing its name is too similar to that of the Harry Potter franchise.
"We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled Hari Puttar," Warner Bros spokeswoman Deborah Lincoln told The Hollywood Reporter.
"Warner Bros values and protects intellectual property rights.
"However, it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing litigation."
Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors, tells of a ten-year-old boy who moves to England with his parents and becomes involved in a plot concerning a secret microchip and is set for a September 12th release in India.
Munish Purii, the chief executive of Mirchi Movies, said he was unable to offer significant comment as the case is sub-judice.
However, he added: "We registered the Hari Puttar title in 2005, and it's unfortunate that Warner has chosen to file a case so close to our film's release.
"In my opinion, I don't think our title has any similarity or links with Harry Potter."
Warner Bros recently confirmed that the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the sixth film in the franchise, has been delayed by eight months until July 2009.
The movie will now spearhead Warner Bros' lineup of summer films.

Jamaica’s Bolt breaks 200 mark, gets sprint double

Usain Bolt of Jamaica broke the world record by winning the 200 meters in 19.30 seconds Wednesday night, becoming the first man since Carl Lewis in 1984 to sweep the 100 and 200 gold medals at an Olympics.
Bolt is the first man ever to break the world marks in both sprints at an Olympics. Not even Lewis or Jesse Owens managed that.
Showing what he can do when he runs at full speed all the way through the finish—something he hadn’t done yet in the Beijing Games—Bolt eclipsed the old record of 19.32 seconds set by Michael Johnson in Atlanta in 1996.
Bolt was an astonishing 0.52 seconds ahead of Churandy Martina of Netherlands Antilles, who was second across the finish line but later was disqualified after a U.S team protest that he had run out of his lane. The third man across the line, Wallace Spearmon of the United States, also was disqualified for leaving his lane.
Those rulings meant Shawn Crawford of the United States, the defending Olympic champion, wound up with the silver medal, and another American, Walter Dix, ended up with the bronze medal despite being the fifth man across the finish line.
The performance marked Bolt as one of the breakthrough stars of these Summer Games, coming on the heels of his victory in the 100 Saturday night. He bettered his own world record in that race by winning in 9.69 seconds—despite slowing down over the final 20 meters to showboat.

Laurence Fishburne joins cast of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - Confirmed

Emmy and Tony award-winner Fishburne, 47, is to play a character - currently dubbed "the professor" - who crosses paths with Grisson in episodes nine and ten of the new season.
"[Gil] will definitely have an opinion on who this guy is," said executive producer Naren Shankar. "The idea is to see a lot of Billy [Petersen] and Laurence together."
Petersen is to remain on the show as an executive producer though Carol Mendelsohn - who holds the same title - was reluctant to reveal the manner of his character's exit, saying: "We're not going to tell you how he's leaving."
However, she explained that signing up Oscar-nominee Fishburne to appear was a longstanding goal for the production team.
"This has been months in the making," she told the Hollywood Reporter.
"We have been talking about the character we wanted to create and pursuing our dream casting, which is Laurence Fishburne."
Fishburne admitted that he had never actually seen the hit drama before agreeing to star as a former pathologist turned college lecturer.
"The episodes they sent to me were really engaging and wonderful and kind of dark and moody," he continued.
"It was like a lot of work that I had actually been involved in, so I thought, 'Wow, that's cool. This'll work.'"

Omarion cuts off his hair...
Thousands Mourn Bernie Mac In Chicago Memorial Service

Fans, friends and fellow celebrities descended on the House of Hope megachurch to bid their farewells to a man who never forgot his humble Chicago roots. Hundreds of mourners had never even met Mac _ or had met him only long enough to shake his hand, get an autograph or thank him for representing his neighborhood.
Mayor Richard Daley recalled that Mac was in his office recently, asking how he could help fight violent crime in the city.
"He wanted to help get children away from a life of crime and violence," Daley said during the service. "That's why he's the king of comedy. He never lost his soul in Chicago."
Mac died Aug. 9 at age 50 of what his publicist said were complications from pneumonia. He had been at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital since the middle of July.
Samuel L. Jackson, who co-stars with Mac in the upcoming movie "Soul Men," spoke at the church, saying he knew Mac "was having some health issues, but he always said to me every morning that he was always good."
Isaac Hayes, who died Sunday, also stars in the movie, and Hayes' music was played during the service.
Usain Bolt gives Jamaica its first Olympic sprint champion

His rivals still couldn't catch up. Richard Thompson of Trinidad & Tobago ran a personal best 9.89 and was further from first than any Olympic silver medalist since 1984. Walter Dix of the United States was third in a personal best 9.91, and Churandy Martina fourth in a Netherlands Antilles record 9.93.
Asafa Powell of Jamaica, the former world record-holder, had two left feet at the big dance again, finishing fifth. Reigning world champion Tyson Gay of the United States was eliminated in the semifinals, unable to make up for time lost to a hamstring injury six weeks ago.
``In the past the United States sprinters dominated," Thompson said. ``It feels good for the Caribbean to be creating this kind of dominance, and for me to be a part of it."
Never before Saturday had there been more than three Caribbean sprinters in an Olympic men's 100 final. Never before had there been three Jamaicans or a Jamaican champion, even if émigrés Linford Christie won for Great Britain in 1992 and Donovan Bailey for Canada in 1996. Hasely Crawford of Trinidad & Tobago was the only previous Caribbean athlete to win the 100 title (1976) for his own country.

Yaaay, these are the Olympics I remember..
Staying up waaay past my bedtime to watch Carl Lewis, Linford Christie, Flo Jo etc with my mum.. The athletics was the only reason I used to watch the games...
Well Done Usain, I'm so proud of him... I can just imagine the celebrations going on in his hometown at the moment.. I hope it's the first of MANY gold medals in Beijing.
